The first avalanche of the season in Colorado: skier buried in snow and rescued at the last moment
Avalanche on Mount Bross, Colorado, October 25, 2026 - Colorado Avalanche Information Center
The ski season in Colorado has barely begun, and a frightening incident has already occurred on Mount Bross, when two skiers were caught in an avalanche at an elevation of approximately 4,300 meters
One of the skiers was buried in the snow, with his head completely covered, but fortunately his friend managed to locate him and pull him out within just about five minutes
The two were carrying appropriate rescue equipment and knew how to use it, allowing them to escape unharmed and without the need for rescue teams
Although the amount of snow in the mountains is still low, experts warn that fresh snow and winds are already creating dangerous conditions on steep slopes
The incident ended safely, but it is an important reminder that even at the beginning of the season, a small avalanche can turn into a life-threatening event
Proper equipment, knowledge, and the presence of a skiing partner can save lives
