Tragedy in the Andes: Hikers were swept away in a deadly avalanche

A heavy tragedy occurred in the Andes Mountains when a massive avalanche struck a group of hikers traveling near a well-known ski resort in Chile. The avalanche surprised the group in the afternoon and swept them away with great force. Numerous rescue forces, including helicopters and medical teams, were called to the scene to locate those trapped and evacuate the injured to hospitals.

According to the latest official updates from the rescue forces and authorities in Chile, the precise data regarding the group, which consisted of 7 hikers in total, is as follows: 3 fatalities: two men and a woman. The avalanche swept them into the waters of the nearby lake. Rescue teams managed to recover two bodies from the water, while the body of the third victim is still in the lake at a depth of approximately 30 meters, and efforts to recover it are continuing in accordance with weather conditions. 4 injured: the four remaining hikers who survived the avalanche were evacuated from the area. One of them was taken to the hospital in critical condition, with his life in danger, while the other three are suffering from serious injuries and signs of hypothermia, but their condition is stable.

An initial investigation indicates that the group members entered a dangerous area on foot, outside the designated trails, despite clear warning signs placed at the site that warned of a danger to life. The management of the neighboring ski resort clarified that the hikers were not guests of the resort and did not use its authorized facilities.

The entire area has recently experienced unusually severe snow events that led to the accumulation of massive layers of snow. This combination, together with changing weather conditions during the transitional season, created particularly sensitive conditions that ultimately led to the collapse of the snow and the tragic outcome.
