The first snow of the season arrives in Gudauri this week!

Ski and snow enthusiasts, it's time to take the coats out of the closet (at least figuratively): the official forecasts in Gudauri indicate that the first winter storm will reach Gudauri already this week!

After months of hot summer, the first winter change and a tangible chill have been recorded in the meteorological systems. According to the latest data available today (September 28), a significant cold front is expected to hit the mountain peaks toward the end of the week, while on Thursday and Friday (October 1–2), the season's first fresh snow is expected to fall, intensifying later toward Sunday. At the site's higher elevations (above 3,000 meters), they are already talking about an initial accumulation that will paint the hills white.

An encouraging sign that winter is coming, but don't pack your skis just yet

Despite the great excitement on social media and the first images expected to pour in from the webcams at the site, locals clarify: this is very early snow ("Early Snow") heralding the arrival of the season, but the resort itself is still completely closed to skiing.

The official ski season in Gudauri is expected to open as planned only in mid-December, so the current snow is mainly preparing the ground, testing the systems, and getting us all in the mood. In addition, ahead of the upcoming season, the resort is presenting significant upgrades, including the expansion of the snowmaking systems and trails that will stretch across no fewer than 86 kilometers.

Traveling in the area in the coming days? Pay attention!

If you are currently in Georgia or planning a holiday road trip along the Military Highway toward Kazbegi at the end of the week, take into account that temperatures at the mountain peaks will drop below zero. It is recommended to check with the local traffic police regarding the condition of the mountain passes, as a combination of rain and snow could create a slippery hazard.
