August heat? not here - this ski resort is at its peak

While a heavy heat wave prevails in North America, the Valle Nevado ski resort in the Andes mountains is actually in the midst of an active winter, with conditions that continue to attract skiers even in August.

Valle Nevado, Chile

The resort, located at an altitude of over 3,000 meters, offers over 2,400 acres of skiable terrain. In the last week, about 17 centimeters of snow have fallen, and the season total has already reached about 4.1 meters. As of now, the vast majority of the trails and lifts are open, allowing almost full access to all areas of the mountain.

August and September are considered particularly reliable months at the resort, after a significant snow base has accumulated. This period combines quality powder days with clear skies and a relatively small crowd. Towards the end of September, the conditions become more spring-like, with soft snow and a relaxed atmosphere.

One of the notable advantages is the connection to the nearby La Parva resort, which adds another approximately 1,650 acres and together creates a wide skiing network of about 4,000 acres. This is a particularly large scale by international standards, with trails for all levels.

Accommodation packages at the resort usually include skiing directly from the hotel, meals, and full access to the lift system of both resorts. In addition to hotels, apartments with kitchens and additional services are offered for those who prefer flexibility.

Regarding ski passes, one can use the Icon Pass which grants up to seven days of skiing without date restrictions, or choose the Power Pass which offers ten days and additional packages based on age. Both passes also include discounts on equipment, food, and services.

Access to the resort is via the city of Santiago, about an hour and a half drive away. One can choose between private and shared shuttles directly from the airport, and rent equipment on-site or bring it from home.

With fresh snow continuing to arrive and almost full opening of the mountain, it seems that the season in South America is at its peak. For those looking to escape the summer, this is a rare opportunity to experience quality skiing in the middle of the year.
